The year 2010 marks the 55th Anniversary of The Drama Desk Awards (one of the most anticipated events of the theatre season) and we want you to take the opportunity to partake in this exciting, celebrity-filled event.. Last year’s show was hosted by Broadway/TV/Film star Harvey Fierstein and the presenters/winners appearing on the show included Liza Minnelli, Jane Fonda, John Lithgow, Geoffrey Rush, Angela Lansbury, Raul Esparza, Allison Janney among many other notables.
The 2010 awards ceremony will take place on Sunday, May 23rd in the LaGuardia Concert Hall at Lincoln Center in New York City Hosted by legendary Broadway/TV Star Patti LuPone and this star-studded event guarantees an evening not to be missed! Nominations for this year’s Drama Desk Awards will be announced at the NY Friar’s Club breakfast on Monday, May 3rd 2010 by two Broadway stars, Brian Stokes-Mitchell and Cady Huffman.
The Drama Desk Awards ceremony is the only event of its kind that embraces both the Broadway and off-Broadway sectors of the New York theatre. The Drama Desk Awards sets the tone for the Tony Awards, much as the Golden Globes do for the Oscars. Significantly, the Drama Desk Awards also nurture artists of the future by giving scholarships to deserving students who aspire to careers in theatrical arts that are announced during the awards ceremony.
Keep Theatre Alive By Becoming a Drama Desk Benefactor or Sponsor
Despite the current economic climate, we are hopeful of having the 2010 awards televised, and/or web cast worldwide via TheaterMania.com; however, we receive no production or broadcast funds and rely totally on sponsors, benefactors and ticket sales to finance production of the show, the receptions, and all media!
