Playwright Doug Wright will moderate a discussion called, “Playwrights & Critics: Bridging the Gap.” This unconventional panel will explore the relationship between two kinds of theater writers—playwrights and critics. Among the playwrights joining Wright will be Kia Corthorn and Matthew Lombardo. (Other playwrights will be added, subject to their schedules — check the Drama Desk Facebook page for updates.) At this interactive event, the critic’s perspective will be represented by the Drama Desk members who are attending. Please join us and plan to jump into the fray!
Doug Wright is the author of Quills, I Am My Own Wife, and books for the musicals Grey Gardens and The Little Mermaid. He has received the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, as well as Obie, Outer Critics Circle, Tony, and Drama Desk awards (among other honors).
Kia Corthorn’s plays include Force Continuum, Seeking the Genesis, and A Cool Dip in the Barren Saharan Crick. She is the author of the novel The Castle Cross the Magnet Carter, published in January by Seven Stories Press. Among her many honors are Writers Guild and Edgar Allan Poe awards for the television series The Wire.
Lombardo is the author of High, Looped, and Tea at Five. Broadway and Off-Broadway productions of Lombardo’s plays have featured Valerie Harper, Kate Mulgrew, and Kathleen Turner.
This event is being offered at no cost (and, as stated above, is open only to Drama Desk members). Light refreshments will be provided and attendees who may be pressed for time before getting to the theater afterwards are welcome to bring their own dinner.
