Arts journalist and Drama Desk board member Randy Gener is still recovering from an incident in which he was violently assaulted on his way home on the morning of January 17, 2014. According to family and friend sources, he is scheduled to have further brain surgery at St. Luke’s Hospital to address injuries from the attack. News reports have cited an arrest in the case.
In addition to hosting Drama Desk panels and volunteering with many of the organization efforts as a board member, Gener won the George Jean Nathan Award, the annual accolade for the best theater journalism, and numerous citations for his efforts on behalf of the Filipino arts community. He has written and directed plays, and as a journalist contributed to many major publications, including The New York Times, New York Magazine, and the Village Voice.
